The project

  • Foxcil is an independent Australian label manufacturer to the print trade.
  • The Foxcil team responded to the call of the Australian Federal Government to manufacture Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic, by pivoting to produce face shields.
  • The Sydney Morning Herald revealed wide-spread concerns over fake or counterfeit face masks being distributed in hospitals earlier in 2020.
  • Laava Smart Fingerprint tally on Foxcil Face Space PPE: 32,000.

Objectives

Roger Kirwan, Foxcil Managing Director, said:

“We wanted to meet the expected demand for face shields so reviewed what equipment we had, along with the supply chains that we already had in place. This resulted in the creation of an all PVC face shield design. Face shields are a great asset in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Each shield is individually packed and sealed in a plastic LDPE bag with a security seal featuring a Laava Smart Fingerprint.

This allows for the individual identification of each mask, providing anti-counterfeiting protection and assurance of the face shield being Australian Made and TGA Approved.”

The innovation caught the eye of Zali Steggall OAM, Federal Member for Warringah.

“This is an exciting example of a local business adapting during these uncertain times to do what they can to keep our community safe.”

Results

To date, more than 32,000 individual Foxcil Face Space PPE face shields have been secured with Smart Fingerprints.

“When end users scan the Laava Smart Fingerprint on the face shield packaging, they not only get a guarantee of the product’s authenticity, but the digital platform also provides the user with useful tips, helplines, instructions for using the face shield and links to reputable coronavirus resources.

Highlighting that our product is Australian made is very important to us. We have received excellent support and interest from the Australian Made Campaign.” (Roger Kirwan, Foxcil Managing Director)
